I have been looking back on my trip of 2,594 miles across America. I feel like the most important thing that happened on the trip, was helping caregivers.
Their were hundreds and hundreds that I talked with that were caregiving as we spoke. A huge majority of them had never heard of the Alzheimers Association. They had no idea help was out there. We told them how to get help. We told them to call 1-800-272-3900.
That feels good. To help others, feels good.
Caregivers are important. Caregivers are human. They have to rest some. They have to renew themselves. They owe it to themselves and their families. They also owe it to the one they are taking care of. The one you are taking care of deserves the best you they can get.
Be the best you can be. Renew, sharpen the saw. Live to fight another day.
In my opinion the most important service the Alzheimer’s Association can provide is to help a caregiver figure out how to get some rest while on their very hard and sometimes long Journey.

My grandkids enjoy trick or treating. We carved pumkins yesterday. It was my first time. I enjoyed laughing with them and letting them be kids. Did not try to teach them any lessons, just let them relax and have fun. It was cool watching them just have fun…..
“Jack, my mama used to tell us, if you make a mistake and learn from it, then it was a learning experience. If you didn’ t learn from it, then it was just a mistake.”
