This was said by Francis H. Collins. He is the Director of the National Institute of Health. “We are not, at the moment, limited by ideas. We are not limited by scientific opportunities. We are not limited by Talent. We are unfortunately, limited by resources to be able to move this Enterprise forward at the pace that it could take”
He was speaking about Alzheimer’s.
After 62 months of reading, listening and speaking with neuroscientists, I totally agree with Mr. Collins. We’ve never had enough funding to create momentum. Our research has never had the money to remain contiguous. Scientists have had to seek work elsewhere. Advocacy groups have worked hard at getting the electorate to help pressure our lawmakers. Much has been done and much is left to do. The lawmakers are holding back our scientists and that needs to change.
